Car Riders/Parent Pick-Up & Drop-off
Students may be picked-up and dropped-off in the west side parking area. This area is surrounded by the bus ramp and directly in front of the transportation department. For safety reasons, do not pull onto the bus ramp to drop-off or pick-up students at any time during the day. Students should use caution when crossing the bus ramp and enter the school through the main Magnet School entrance when reporting to their assigned area.
Student Drivers
Because we have students in grades 7-12, we have some students that will drive their own vehicle. These students will need to register with the front office within the first five (5) days of school and present their state of Florida driver’s license, license plate number and proof of insurance. The fee for parking on campus will be $10.00 for the full school year and a parking space will be assigned in the student section of the parking lot. Students are only permitted to park in their designated parking space. Students will not be permitted to go to and from their vehicles during the school day.
Changes in Transportation
All arrangements for transportation should be made prior to arrival at school. In the event a change must be made, please submit a written note with a parent/guardian signature and valid phone number for verification. If changes are made during the school day, you must contact the school directly for instructions. Any changes must be made prior to 2:00 pm to give the office time to relay the message to the student.
Due to increased activities in the office around dismissal time, we are not able to check email or phone messages frequently. Therefore, you should not depend on email or phone messages when making transportation plans for your child. Please help us get your child to the correct location by following the procedures outlined above.

ATTENDANCE
General Guidelines
· Students will have three (3) days, including the day they return, to bring in verification for an excused absence. Please refer to the Walton County School District Code of Conduct for examples of excused and unexcused absences.
· Students are expected to make up all work missed during their absence.
· An absence may be excused with a note from the parent through the tenth (10th) absence per year.
· A doctor’s note will be required for all absences in excess of ten per year and must be submitted to the school office within three (3) days of the students return to school. A note that is not returned within the three (3) day period will not be accepted and the absence will remain unexcused.
· After the fifth (5th) unexcused absence in a thirty (30) calendar day period or ten (10) unexcused absences in a ninety (90) calendar day period, the parent will be notified in writing. Please see the Walton County School District Code of Conduct for detailed information.
Tardy Policy
· To ensure safety, all students arriving on campus after 8:30 am must have a parent/guardian walk them to the office and sign them in.
· Tardiness will be considered unexcused, unless the office is presented with a doctor’s note or is the result of a late bus.
· A student will be considered absent for the period if they miss more than 30 minutes of the class, less than 30 minutes will be considered tardy.
· Every student upon signing in to the office will be given a tardy slip, if the tardy is excused it will be noted on the slip. The slip will then be presented to the teacher when entering the classroom by the student.
· The teacher must change the absence in FOCUS to reflect the students attendance for the period.
· Lunch detention is assigned upon the fourth (4th) tardy in a nine-week period, and for each additional tardy thereafter.
Student Check-In/Check-Out
If it is necessary for your child to leave during the school day, a parent or the parent’s authorized representative must come to the office to sign the student out and present a valid state/government photo ID. An authorized representative is any person listed as a contact on the student emergency card filled out by the parents at the beginning of each school year. It is very important that all contact information is kept current.
5
While we understand there are emergencies and circumstances beyond control, please limit the number of check-ins and check-outs during the school day. An interruption during class time disrupts the flow of instruction. The school day hours are 7:30 am to 2:30 pm. In order to avoid confusion, no student check-outs will be allowed after 2:00 pm.
Leaving School Grounds
Students may not leave school grounds without parent approval and without signing out through the school office. A student that leaves campus without following these guidelines will be considered “skipping” and the necessary disciplinary action will be taken. Students are not permitted to leave campus for lunch or to leave campus to pick up and bring back lunch for themselves or others.
